Many people continue running, hiking, playing golf, lifting weights, or doing their favorite sport while they are already in pain.
Why?
Because they love it. It gives them energy. It is part of their lifestyle. It helps them feel alive.
But here is the problem: doing your sport in pain can create compensation. When one area hurts, the body tries to protect it. Another muscle starts working harder. Another joint takes more pressure. Your posture changes. Your movement changes. Then the original pain can become a bigger full-body problem.
Pain is not something to “push through” forever. Pain is a signal. Mayo Clinic notes that if pain during running gets worse during or after the run, becomes more severe, causes swelling, or affects sleep, you should stop running. Cleveland Clinic also explains that once running-related back pain starts, you should stop running and give your body time to heal.
The same idea applies to hiking, gym training, golf, tennis, pickleball, basketball, soccer, and any hobby that loads your body repeatedly. If you keep doing the same movement with pain, you may keep feeding the same compensation pattern.
At Life RX Wellness in Glendale and Los Angeles, we help active people understand why the pain keeps coming back. We do not just chase the painful spot. We check posture, mobility, stability, muscle activation, walking patterns, running mechanics, and full-body compensation.
Your first step is assessment.
Find the problem. Treat the tissue. Balance the body. Correct the movement. Then return to your sport smarter.
If you love running, hiking, or your favorite hobby, do not let pain take it away from you. Get help before the body reaches crisis mode. Cleveland Clinic says pain that does not improve after a few days or keeps returning should be checked by a healthcare provider.
Stop suffering. Stop destroying your body. Start correcting the cause.
