Stop Running Through Pain

Pain while running is not something to ignore.
If you feel pain in your ankle, knee, hip, or even lower back when you run, the problem may start from your ankle mobility and ankle stability.
Your ankle is part of your body’s natural spring system. When you run, every step creates impact. If your foot is flat, your ankle is stiff, or your body cannot absorb force properly, that impact travels up into the knee, hip, and lower back.
Running on concrete makes this even more serious because the surface is hard and unforgiving. If your ankle cannot move well, your body will compensate — and compensation can turn into injury.
A simple test is the wall ankle mobility test:
Stand close to a wall. Place your foot about 4–5 inches away. Keep your heel down. Bend your knee toward the wall. If your knee can reach the wall without the heel lifting, your ankle has better dorsiflexion. If it cannot, your ankle mobility may be limited.
You also need to check ankle stability, internal rotation, external rotation, and how your foot lands when you run.
If you experience pain during running, stop and check your body. Do not keep loading pain. Correct the ankle, improve mobility, improve stability, and see a specialist before the problem becomes worse.
At Life RX Wellness, we help runners and active people with assessment, PhysioMassage, ankle mobility, stability work, and full-body movement correction.
